Overview of the Chad Warren Lawsuit

On January 28, 2026, Chad Warren filed a lawsuit against Hamilton County, Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey, Officer Jordan Anderson, and about 25 other corrections officers who were involved in the alleged abuse. The lawsuit stems from a November 2025 incident in which Officer Anderson allegedly beat Warren with a belt unprovoked, causing Warren to file an official grievance with the prison.

Despite filing a grievance, Warren was denied the right to speak with supervisors regarding the abuse and was instead transferred to another facility. Supervisors then tried to pressure Warren into signing a form stating he was safe around deputies, but he refused. He was then placed in administrative segregation, allegedly in retaliation for filing a grievance and refusing to sign the form.

Warren missed several court dates and was denied medical care for a fractured spine due to the administrative segregation. He was also deprived of water for more than 48 hours.

“The allegations in this lawsuit reflect a breakdown of basic professional and moral duties,” said Straus, an attorney for Milberg.

Chad Warren Lawsuit Filed - January 28, 2026

Attorneys from Milberg and Radner Law Group, in partnership with the Police Brutality Center, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Chad Warren, alleging excessive force by Hamilton County corrections officers. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages and demands that all responsible parties be held fully accountable for the alleged misconduct.

The lawsuit includes claims of excessive force, failure to intervene, deliberate indifference to serious medical needs, retaliation, unsafe conditions of confinement, due process violations, conspiracy to violate civil rights, assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Several of the claims allege violations of Warren’s rights under the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments to the Constitution.

The Alleged Abuse Begins - November 19, 2025

Chad Warren was incarcerated in the Hamilton County jail from October 25, 2025, to January 8, 2026. According to the lawsuit, on November 19, 2025, Warren was on his way to work in the jail kitchen when a corrections officer grabbed him by the shoulder and allowed another officer, Jordan Anderson, to beat Warren with a belt for about 20 seconds. Several other officers allegedly watched and laughed.

After the beating, Warren requested to speak with supervisors, but officers are said to have laughed at his request. Warren then submitted a grievance through the jail kiosk. The next day, he had still not spoken to a superior.

Warren was then transferred to another facility where officers used derogatory language against him and allowed him to fill out only the first page of an Ohio Victims form. On November 24, a sergeant and lieutenant requested that Warren sign a paper stating he was safe around other deputies and inmates, but he refused and was taken to administrative segregation. He missed multiple court dates and was denied water for several dates.

Upon release from administrative segregation, Warren was allegedly restrained and shot with pepper balls in another incident. A doctor later determined he had a fractured spine, either caused or exacerbated by the beatings.
