What role does video evidence play in the success of police brutality lawsuit?

Video Transcript

The significance of video evidence in police brutality lawsuits is exceptionally high. Very often, these cases hinge on whether there’s video and what that video shows. Most encounters with law enforcement nowadays are recorded either by a body camera, by a dash camera, or by a cell phone camera. Almost every encounter that we’re going to go to court with is going to have pictures and video evidence. And ultimately that video evidence is going to tell a much stronger story than anybody possibly can.

Video captures tone. Video captures aggression. Video captures generally how people are behaving towards each other. Whether a police officer is acting professionally and appropriately. And alternatively, if the plaintiff or the so-called victim is acting professionally and appropriately. Ultimately, the video evidence that we’re able to uncover and produce in a police brutality case will often be the most important evidence that’s shown to a jury and shown to a court. Video captures things that a report cannot capture. Video tells the whole story.
